The most important thing is that we decided to register this initiative as a Foundation. The process has been pretty straight forward but time consuming as it is not a one minute affair with the NGO Coordination Board of Kenya. At first there was that fear of dealing with a government office complicating our main focus.
The website for the NGO Coordination Board is pretty helpful and you more or less download everything there and lodge the paperwork. Path to Womanhood Foundation is soon going to be official. Its like a day dream but real at the same time.
The decision to register was based on a number of factors:
1. We wanted to be upfront and legally legitimate so anyone asking for our accounts will be able to get them
2. Reaching out to people (individuals, corporates, local and international organisations) with more confidence
3. Different programs can run under PTW not just sanitary towels
4. We will have to be accountable to ourselves and the NGO Board
5. The growth to more than what we have been doing to other counties in the country
I’m excited, awaiting the letter of confirmation from NGO Board. Nervous and excited.
