Outreach Success – Part 1

Path to Womanhood had our second outreach yesterday, 10th Sept at the Salvation Army grounds in Kibera. It was an awesome day which started out with a very chilly drizzly morning, while wondering what would await us in Kibera. Jane invited us to have our outreach as part of a celebration that she was having for 10 schools that had made it to the Music Festivals, National level. It was very exciting and many of the schools who attended were made up of boys and girls in primary and high school.

At first we were not too sure how to react, what wonderful talent and excitement we felt in the air. It made me wonder and think what was i doing when i was that age? I don’t think i was as brave and courageous as these girls, neither would i have danced and sang infront of this many people! I captured afew of the schools that presented, FYI these presentations are only made to the President at State House, so it was an honour that they were presenting for us.

Through out the morning we were entertained, and Jane Anyango of Polycom Development Projects even made sure that the schools were presented wit certificates and cups as a sign of how much they were cherished by Kibera. Its exciting to see that even amidst all the challenges, many of the girls to beyond their circumstances. I was inspired! Read what happened next here (Part 2: Sanitary Pad Affair )
