If i had never gotten interested in round up sanitary pad donations i would have never realised just how inaccessible information can be. Yes we have distributed sanitary pads, but we need to arm girls with information. We have had many interactions to date, with the girls who have recieved the donations and boy do they bring up interesting and shocking discussions. The reproductive kind that have you pulling out a biology or medical book just to confirm if you know what you are saying.
I hope that we can incorporate a reproductive talk to the girls before end of 2011. Something that will cover STDs, knowing their bodies, premarital sex, yeast infections yeah all that talk that makes you squirm in your seats.
It breaks my heart that high school girls feel its ok to have unprotected sex with older men. They also have no idea if their partners are faithful. Further, some have no idea what all the itching down there means or whether its a yeast infection which can escalate to more serious diseases when not treated.
I am reaching out to all my Doctor and non Doctor friends, we need Gynaecologists to come break it down for all the girls out there. Know of any?? Please let me know!
