Lewa Wildlife Conservancy Sewing Program

The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy have a sewing program that reccently requested for some assistance with sanitary towels for the girls in the area who were missing school because they lacked. We discussed whether to go with the disposable ones or whether implementation of a reuseable sanitary towel program could be feasible or not. Yes is was feasible.

After almost a month (or more) of back and forth planning with Lucy from Hope for Teenage Mothers we were able to get trainers on the ground in Lewa. Not many people are crazy about reuseable sanitary towels and i wasnt for a while. However with time we have to realise that not all solutions work for all girls in the same way. Reuseables in this area for exampl from an eco perspective is more feasible and because they have access to water.

Dispoable sanitary towels proved to be a challenge with regards to the actual disposal proocess as they are non biodegradable.

We thank Lewa for the opportunity, please read more about it HERE

Hope for Teenage Mothers, we love you!
